The weather conditions in Santorini
The weather is warm and dry from April until October and from mid May to the end of September rainfall is extremely rare. During the "meltemi" period in July and August the winds can be quite strong for periods lasting 2-5 days .Although the wind force is usually 1-2 point less in the baufort scale than in other Cycladic islands it can be irritating due to the dust that gets blown from the wind so sunglasses are needed especially if one is riding a motorcycle. Temperatures during the summer seasons are quite high but not as much as in Greece's mainland and even then a sweater / jacket might be necessary at night. The sea water temperature is warm enough for pleasant swimming from June to September. During the winter period from November until the end of March the temperatures are lower and there is some rainfall. Even during the winter long periods of consecutive rainy days are not common in Santorini and the sky does not remain cloudy for more than a few days in a row.
